Preparing your vehicle for a long journey

If you have a long journey planned in your car then you will need to ensure that the car is fit to do the journey. Firstly you need to check all the tyres around the vehicle, check the tyre pressures to ensure they are correct and also have a good look round for any damage or excess wear. If any tyre is damaged, immediately get it checked out by a garage before setting off.

You should also ensure that all the fluid levels are filled up to the correct amount and that you have a full bottle of washer fluid. You should get someone to assist you in doing a lights check, sit inside the car turning all the different lights on and get someone to check that they all work as they should. If not, it may simply be a fuse or a bulb that needs replacing.

Check inside the car that all the seat belts work and that any seats that move have been fixed back in to place, also double check the fit of the child seats.
