Can you service your own car?
If you need to have a service done on your vehicle but are struggling to afford the high costs that a garage will charge you, then you may be able to do it yourself. Firstly you need a safe, dry place to work in that is well lit. If you are working on your drive, it will need to be flat.
The first thing you need to do is to drain the oil out of the vehicle. You can do this by removing the sump plug under the car. Do not remove the il filter until you have drained the majority of oil out of the sump. You can then leave the oil to drain away whilst you carry on with other parts of the service.
If you are going to be changing the fuel and air filter, then this is the next job to do. These filters are relatively cheap to replace and should be done at every service. If you cannot find out how to remove these then have a look online for a video tutorial for a walkthrough for your make and model of vehicle.
If your car is a petrol then you may want to replace the spark plugs. These may not need to be replaced every year but as they often cost less than £50 for a full set it is worth doing them every other year. Be sure to replace the spark plug leads in the same order they were when you unplugged them.
