Driving in the ice – tyres matter!

Categories :

With the UK having one of the coldest winters on record, drivers have faced some extremely unpleasant journeys over the last few months. Snow and ice along with gale force winds have hit almost every part of the UK and has resulted in chaos on our roads.

Often we are told that the weather is going to cause ice and snow and that we should avoid driving if possible, but with many people having to try and get into work, sometimes these journeys simply cannot be avoided.

If you are going to be driving in these types of conditions it is even more important to check and maintain your tyres. Tyre pressure, grip and wear can have a massive impact on driving ability and stopping distances. Spending a little bit more on tyres and going for something with a decent grip on them, rather than getting budgets can really make a massive difference and will allow you to have more control over the car. If you have a car with ESP Electronic Stabilisation Programme, then never turn this off in snow and ice as if you do start to slide the ESP will often be able to allow you to regain control of the vehicle.
