Getting your car ready for the winter months
With the UK well in to summer, now is often the perfect time to start preparing for a change in the weather and motoring through the winter period. If you leave it until winter to do this you may find that you need to spend a good chunk of money quickly to get it up to scratch whereas if you do it through the summer months you can often get work done a bit at a time and spread it out. There are certain checks that you can do to try and eliminate problems during the winter or be prepared if they do happen.
It is vital to check your tyres have a good amount of tread and are not damaged. With the roads getting wetter and becoming icy in the winter months, good grip is essential for safe driving. Check that you have anti-freeze in your coolant to stop it freezing up potentially seizing the engine and that you window screen washer also has anti-freeze in it.
Keeping a warm blanket, possibly cereal bar and bottle of water in the car are the must haves along with a torch that can come in handy too should you find yourself stranded miles away from a village or town.
